Hertzel Katz was born in South Africa 77 years ago where experiencing anti Semitism first hand led to his interest in Zionism, he came on Alyah in 1969 with his wife Lola and 2 young children. Qualifying as a lawyer Hertzel also always found time to volunteer. For many years he has worked with Telfed (The South African Zionist Organisation) helping to set up its structure, initiating new ideas and on 2 occasions was its chairman. His involvement with ESRA began more than 25 years ago when he helped write its constitution and register it as a NPO, actively involved in many ways Herzl was chairman of ESRA 5 years ago. Many other organizations have also benefited from Hertzel's dedicated and enthusiastic presence – these cover activities including road safety, sports, public services and cultural events.
