Testimony House

Photos with grateful thanks to the House of Testimony

On a wet and windy weekday, 35 Modiin members and friends drove to the House of Testimony located on Moshav Nir Galim near Ashdod. This moshav was created by Hungarian survivors who did not wish to talk about their horrible experiences for many years. Gradually they came to understand the necessity of telling their story, particularly regarding the Glass House located in Budapest.

The tour was conducted by a Sherut Leumi guide, the only English speaker on the staff. Her clear, well expressed explanation of the establishment of the moshav together with each room's specific information was very well received. The work put into displaying some artifacts as well as the clear, concise rendering of the information is a credit to the curators.

Following the guide outside, we entered a cattle car from WW2, which was installed on the grounds of the moshav several years ago.The feeling inside that car gave me goosebumps as I am sure it did to others. After the guide's explanation of many facts concerning the transportation of the Jews, I was grateful to walk out of the car as quickly as possible.

The somber mood at the end of our tour left us all with much to think about. Definitely worth a visit.

There were many people who could not be included in the first tour as there is a limit on numbers, so another trip was arranged and the participants were equally impressed.
