Sybil Levin 1940-2015

I met Sybil when she began working at the BOS (British Olim Society), soon after she made aliyah with her twin daughters Julie and Lauren. They were then living in Ramat Gan. After some time Sybil wanted to move to Tel Aviv, as she didn't like the commute in crowded buses every morning. I was with her when she found her next apartment in Shimon Hatarsi Street, Tel Aviv. After losing her daughter Julie about ten years ago, life was never the same for her.

During the years we had close contact with each other, and I had the pleasure of hearing about and meeting her family. I shall miss receiving her email messages with 'chat' as the subject.

Sybil was a great writer and loved to write poetry. After that she tried her hand, successfully, at writing short articles and had a few published in the ESRA magazine. She also volunteered with ESRA and wrote blurbs for the articles on the website and did proofreading for the magazine.

The move she made to live in protected housing (she didn't like me to say 'old age home'), was a great move on her part and she was very happy there. I was most surprised when she joined the crafts room and began making jewelry (I think she was too). She loved it when her grandchildren took pieces of her jewelry to wear and was happy to get orders. The last items she made in the craft room were crib covers for her anticipated 'great grandchildren', which she spent hours lovingly making. We would sit together each week I was there, (I am a volunteer there), working on our projects for that day.

Sybil also loved cats and although she couldn't have one in her apartment, she 'adopted' cats, fed them every day and always carried some cat food with her.

I was so looking forward to us going out together once she got over having a broken leg, but that, unfortunately, was not to be. When I last walked into her hospital room on Sunday she immediately said to me "Is that a new top'?

Dear Sybil rest in peace. It was an honor and pleasure to know you.
