We all love and are exceedingly proud of ZAHAL. We should be. They are our children and grandchildren. For just that reason, it is a pleasure to recommend the recently published volume entitled Snapshot: The IDF as Never Seen Before by Yoav Limor and Ziv Korn. With a publication date of 2018, it is truly as up-to-date as can be. The combination of the very lucid and sometimes critical text of Limor with the amazing photographs of Korn provide a graphic and moving image of Zahal.

The sections testify to the fact that the authors deal with the current issues in a clear and effective manner. There are sections on:The Shadow War, The Special Forces Unit, Women in the Military, Religion and the Military and other current and fascinating topics. As an experienced military correspondent and a photographer, they had the full cooperation of Zahal and they have produced an exciting and attractive volume.

I recommend this book for either your own coffee table or as a beautiful gift for friends both in Israel and abroad.

Morton Leibowitz, MD, FACP, FACC, a Professor of Internal Medicine and Cardiology at New York University, came to live in Israel with his wife Ruth in 1996. A resident of Raanana, he founded the Cardiac Prevention and Rehabilitation Center at Meir Hospital in Kfar Saba and currently serves as a senior research consultant in the Chief Physician’s office at Kupat Holim Clalit. His avocations are literature, poetry and history.

Morty and Ruth are the proud grandparents of 8 and enjoy the nachas of watching them grow up and proudly serve in Israel in Zahal and Sherut Leumi.
