Marigold Bergman 1932-2014

Marigold Bergman 1932 - 2014

Today our dear beautiful funny mom left us.

Although we are in pain and however strange it is to say we are happy for her, hoping she'll be meeting our dad, Ellis, who most probably will ask her: "Marigold what took you so long?"

Although our strong energetic mom gave up lately, she could give us all special coaching in life adjustments and finding the silver lining.

Just the night before last she was sure that she would be coming back home after having a bite of her Aroma sandwich at the hospital.

Fifty two years ago our mom and dad left our lovely home in Summerstrand for a hut in the Petach Tikva Ulpan. She left her three sisters, our grannies and grandpa and her friends, all of whom she was so close to. She followed our dad all the way to Persia, Ghana and Nigeria, while bravely going on and on with her countless Hebrew lessons.

Her first years in Israel were a struggle, but with the mutual love and support that the Neve Magen gang of English speaking families gave each other, things became easier.

She filled her days with the odd-shop, bridge and book clubs.

As children we learned to recognize Sinatra, Dean Martin and the Platters in our sleep.

Later, she volunteered in ESRA in high schools helping the children with English and in the Ramat Hasharon library. She was also an active member of the ESRA committee in Ramat Hasharon, assisting at the monthly events at Beit Malinov, at the yearly fundraising concert, distributing magazines, and other local activities.

Our mom was full of energy, never losing a moment in life, she never missed a walk or a day of gym until she suffered a stroke at the age of 79.

The last three years were trying and painful but she kept up a brave front with her lovely smile, sense of humor, always laughing at herself and her disabilities, pooh-poohing her walking stick, calling it the "chariot", always carrying a book (not too sad, not too thick).

She tried some painting, swimming, gym, as long as the teachers were gorgeous...

We had everlasting arguments over high heels, and even after hiding them she somehow always managed to find an extra pair.

Every visit to the emergency room at the hospital ended with a doctor falling for her... unfortunately this happened quite a lot, her mind being faster than her legs.

Now that our mom is up there, meeting her Ellis again, we would like to thank her wonderful friends who never forgot her for one minute, always making sure she stayed part of the gang, the staff in Beth Protea who kept her happy and comfortable at all times (and did she keep them busy!). And last but not least, our sweet Lenlen who was so devoted to her in spite of her being the Diva from time to time.

Rest in peace, mom. Thanks, mom, for all you did for us along the years, we hope you have found dad already. Make sure that he buys you those high heels again.

We all love you and miss you so much.

Your kids – Pera, Beryl and Michael
