Carlos Dworman
Carlos (aka Carl Dworman), embarked on a life-changing journey this past September, making Aliyah from Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, to Bat Galim, Israel. At 81 years old, with roots in New England and a long-standing history with Israel, Carlos's story is one of resilience and unexpected creativity. Coming from a family of accomplished artists, it's surprising that he never picked up a pencil – until now.
His earlier passions revolved around flying airplanes, developing real estate, shmoozing, doing magic tricks and telling jokes. His move to Israel marked the beginning of a new chapter. Arriving with a walker and managing numerous physical challenges, it was evident to his sister, Debbie a resident of Bat Galim, Haifa - that Carlos required 24/7 care. Miraculously, the perfect ground-floor one-bedroom apartment became available, along with Sonia, the ideal caregiver from India. Everything seemed to align for Carlos.
It was during a post-dinner moment, after enjoying a meal from Monkey's Pizza, that his sister handed him some cardboard plates and colorful markers, suggesting he try creating art. Though initially reluctant, Carlos soon found himself immersed in a world of artistic expression. Two months later, there's no stopping him.
Carlos's artwork reflects his daily life in Bat Galim – its people, places, and moments – through a distinctive lens. His lines, colors, and compositions are captivating, offering a unique perspective that speaks of his rich life experiences. How extraordinary to uncover such talent and passion at 81, proving that it's never too late to discover new paths and bring beauty into the world.
Some of his works were recently exhibited at Bar Galim, Bat Galim 's community bar and cafe.
