Humanity Forgotten

I see things

I hear things

I feel things,

they are all the same things.

Wondering how we got here

why we got here

how it will evolve

if it can ever be solved.

Our hearts break

Our minds search

Our hope wanes.

Faith in our common goals

Faith in the healing of our souls

Will maybe bring us

To heal things

To feel things

To clearly see things.

How they are

How they can be

Once our hostages are free

How can the world perceive us

As the enemy?

Our soldiers return to be men,

women, sisters, brothers,

fathers, mothers.

Children long to see

their lives

as they were meant to be.

Maddy Levine wrote this poem one year ago, at the start of the Israel-Gaza War 2023, and it is, she says, still relevant today.
