Together with Maurice and Merylin Hyman I attended the Annual Graduation ceremony of the Bagrut students at Kfar HaNoar School at Kfar Hasidim.
This is a school which is one part of the projects of the ESRA Haifa Branch.
We donate funds to pay a special private teacher, who helps children with severe learning difficulties.
Most of the children are fairly new olim, who have been assessed by the Talia Trust and accepted for this special educational help that ESRA provides.
The Graduation ceremony was part of huge festivities, with a hot meal and other foods provided to the hundreds of parents and other guests who arrived there at 18:30. Light entertainment by the students was provided and then one by one the graduates received their Certificates.
Among the 13 graduates helped by ESRA, 8 graduates were classed as "outstanding students". This was most satisfying for us and for the Haifa ESRA group.
We managed to speak to some of the graduates and they thanked us profusely for the help that they got from us. They all said that they were so behind in their work, that only our special teacher helped them achieve what they did.
In previous years the students were mostly Ethiopian olim. But the last two years they were mainly Russian-born. All the girls looked so lovely in their beautiful elegant dresses and the boys in tuxedos and bow ties.
Haifa ESRA will continue with this project next academic year.
